Goldenrod helps rid the body of phlegm by thinning thick, stagnant mucous. It’s especially useful when dealing with seasonal allergies as it’s astringent action helps dry up watery eyes and runny nose and it’s antiseptic action clears up sore throat. It also acts on the kidneys through it’s diuretic action. Mixed with the microbial action, goldenrod is great remedy for urinary infections – especially those of a recurring nature. In Chinese Medicine, goldenrod supports Kidney Qi and Yin. Goldenrod can also be applied topically to heal wounds and soothe sore muscles arthritic joints. As an oral rinse, goldenrod targets mouth ulcers, toothaches, and oral conditions. It’s diaphoretic action makes goldenrod a remedy for fever when the pores need to open and release heat from the body. The constituent rutin found in goldenrod has an affinity for the cardiovascular system by strengthening capillary walls.
