Description
A nutrient-dense, mushroom-forward broth blend crafted to support long-term vitality, cognitive health, and overall resilience. This medicinal mushroom broth builds on the traditional longevity soups of Chinese and Japanese kitchen medicine, where mushrooms and warming roots have been simmered together for centuries as daily nourishment rather than acute intervention.
Oyster, shiitake, and lion’s mane mushrooms provide immune and neurological support. Shiitake contains lentinan, a beta-glucan long studied for immune modulation. Lion’s mane supports cognitive function and nerve growth factor production. Astragalus root, the anchor herb of Chinese longevity medicine, strengthens foundational vitality and supports the wei qi (protective energy). Garlic and onion add antimicrobial and cardiovascular benefits. Rosemary, nettle, and gotu kola contribute antioxidant, mineral, and circulatory support.
Unlike a store-bought stock, which is flavor without medicine, this is medicine that tastes like flavor. Meant to be simmered slowly to break down the mushroom cell walls and release the water-soluble polysaccharides that carry their immune benefits. Use it as a sipping broth on cold mornings, a base for winter soups, a cooking liquid for rice and grains, or the foundation for anything you’d normally make with chicken stock.
Ingredients
Oyster mushroom, shiitake mushroom, lion’s mane mushroom, astragalus root, garlic, onion, rosemary, nettle, gotu kola
Flavor profile
Rich, umami-forward with earthy mushroom depth and subtle herbal brightness
Suggested use
Add a generous handful per quart of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 to 90 minutes. Strain, or leave the ingredients in and eat them as part of the soup. Season to taste with salt, tamari, or miso at the end.
Use as a daily sipping broth, a soup or stew base, or a cooking liquid for grains and legumes. For deeper medicine, combine with bones to make a mushroom bone broth.
Notes
Excellent for daily use as a nourishing broth or soup base. Supports long-term vitality and recovery from illness or exhaustion. Use caution if managing autoimmune conditions, as astragalus is immunomodulatory and may interact with immunosuppressive medications. Consult a qualified practitioner before daily use in that case.
